New: EPA's Troubled Waters

Polluters dump about 240 million pounds of toxins into our waterways each year, and the long-term effects on human health and the environment could be disastrous. Thirty five years after the Clean Water Act became law, American News Project explores why our fish are changing sex and our water contains rocket fuel, pesticides, and pharmaceuticals. 2005 Milestones & Accomplishments

Education Projects:

Middle Reach Stormwater Survey - COMPLETE

Completed monitoring & final report for client RRWC & CFSC in April and report is posted on RRISS website for public, agencies etc.

Bishops Ranch VWIN Monitoring

Completed 9 monthly sampling events including a rural First Flush event in November for Bishop's Ranch in the third year of this program to monitor water quality in Turtle (Griffin) and Keepo Creeks.

Foss Creek Project

Launched project in April with Trout Unlimited, attracted over 40 volunteers, created and produced the community-wide Foss Creek Festival at Raven Theater Nov 5th funded in part by city grant, worked with city council and city staff to develop project agreements on 4 restoration projects, creek assessment, stormwater reduction program and creek master planning process.

Riverkeeper Park in Guerneville

Accepted property donation in January, removed over 60 cubic yards (over 3500 pounds) of garbage, removed over 40 cubic yards of invasive & non-native plants, partnered with Marmot Mountain LTD on workday with 51 Marmot employees who took a day off to devote over 350 hours of work in one day, submitted grant request to RRROC, met with Coastal Conservancy staff to develop grant proposal for project,

Mercury Monitoring Project

Caught and submitted 3 more fish samples for analysis

Education:

Gave presentations to the following groups in 2005

Education & Enforcement Projects

Creekkeeper Volunteers

Recruited over 30 volunteers, conducted 5 classroom and 1 field training session with 14 local, state and federal agency reps and 2 watershed experts, graduated 27 Creekkeepers and assigned them to sections of the watershed, documented over 35 legal violations, commenced collecting water quality data at over 25 sites.

Advocacy:

Participated on technical advisory committee for development of SUSMP design guidelines for Sonoma County and Santa Rosa, Stormwater permit comments for Healdsburg, Santa Rosa, Rohnert Park & Ukiah, Ukiah Valley General Plan, 303(d) listing submissions and comments, multiple issues with City of Santa Rosa, City of Healdsburg, gave field trip and presentation to RB1 & RB2 workgroup to develop basin plan beneficial use for riparian areas, RB1 workgroups on Mixing Zones, Basin Plan Update, sediment TMDL, Temp TMDL, and more..
