About Habitat Degradation

Riverkeeper Stewardship Park
Riverkeeper Stewardship Park

Our restoration work, which focuses on the Riverkeeper Stewardship Park in Guerneville (shown above) and the Foss Creek Restoration project in Healdsburg (shown in the right column), demonstrates the goals of restoring the native plant community and proper ecological stewardship of the river and creek banks for the benefit of property owners while balancing human desires for view corridors and river access.

On-The-River

Russian Riverkeeper’s On-The-River (OTR) program is the heart of our organization and consists of maintaining a constant presence on our River to bring information about the River to the community.

The OTR program also empowers the community by providing training to gather information on water quality, riparian health, aquatic and terrestrial wildlife, land use and human activity.

California Coastkeeper Alliance (CCKA) has mapped major fish barriers that block fish passage to spawning and rearing grounds. The maps, created by CCKA, show how dams and road crossings create an abundance of impassible barriers on the waterways designated as critical habitat for Steelhead, denying native fish the cold, abundant flows they need to thrive.
