Russian Riverkeeper depends on the support of donors to continue its critical work of ensuring a promising future of clean water and a healthy watershed.
We're passionate, ambitious, and full of ideas about the River, but we have far more ideas than we have funds and people.
Below is a list of future projects for which we are seeking seed money to develop. In supporting one of these projects you are making a real difference in the world and helping to protect your most precious natural resource—clean water!
If you are interested in funding part or all of any of these projects, please contact Kate at kate@russianriverkeeper.org or call her at our main number.
Goal
The goal of this project is to visually document the existing conditions of all the watershed waterways and to update these images annually. Such information could be utilized for many different purposes: recreation, polluters, illegal operations, erosion, water flow analysis, etc. The images could also be associated with a Google Map. This project may also have serendipitous interactions with the proposed Adopt-A-Waterway project also listed on this page.
Phase 1: Obtain Seed Funding for Developing a Plan
Develop a plan to photograph the waterways of the entire watershed. Identify best ways & means of taking the photos and how to archive them. Develop a budget and identify the people required to accomplish the project. Develop visual prototypes of how to make the resultant images accessible online either on this website or through a partner. Ultimately, the goal would be to virtually float down any part of the river.
To accomplish Phase 1, Russian Riverkeeper is still developing a cost estimate.
Phase 2: Obtain Implementation Funding
Goal
To identify and map illegal water diversions and to work with the Department of Water Resources to advocate for state enforcement of illegal diversions.
Phase 1: Optain Seed Funding for Developing a Program
We need seed money to develop a cooperative program with homeowners, farmers, and other businesses to reduce water diversions and research water conservation methods such as dry farming, rain harvesting, proper water reuse and timing of pumping to reduce impacts to native fish and river water quality.
We are still working on the cost of developing a program plan.
Phase 2: Obtain Implementation Funding
Goal
To educate, inform and engage a growing membership and community about issues facing the river, specifically, our use of water resources.
Today, as our world heats up, as pollution grows, and as our globe’s resources of freshwater are strained, we are faced with an environmental and humanitarian problem of mammoth proportions. We are running out of fresh water!
Phase 1: Optain Seed Funding for Developing a Program
We need seed money to create a series so that we can educate the community about the facts surrounding water and a healthy water future. In supporting this series you will help bring the local population back to the idea of respecting water and its deep and inspiring role as the architect of our communities and ecosystems.
We are still working on the cost of developing a program plan.
